Three Essential Adjustments for Low Back Pain Relief | Chiropractor in West Des Moines, IA
Hello everyone, Dr. Miller here from Truth Family Chiropractic. Today, I want to share various techniques we utilize to adjust the lower spine and alleviate low back pain effectively.
Side Posture Adjustment
One of the primary methods we use is called the Side Posture adjustment. For this, the patient will lie on their side, facing towards me. This position allows us to keep the cervical spine aligned while focusing on the lumbar or sacroiliac joints depending on the area of discomfort.
- Positioning: The patient’s top leg is bent and positioned forward to maintain balance and proper alignment of the spine.
Execution: I apply a hand contact at the target lumbar vertebra or SI joint. Using a firm but gentle motion, I roll the patient slightly towards me, apply pressure on the shoulder, and deliver a quick, precise thrust into the lumbar region. This action helps realign the spine and reduce pain.
ArthroStim Instrument Adjustment
Another tool we employ is the ArthroStim instrument, which provides a rapid thrust to the spine faster than muscle reflexes can respond, ensuring a deep and effective adjustment without discomfort.
- Procedure: The device is applied directly to the lumbar spine. As it activates, it delivers a series of rapid pulses that help to shift the vertebrae into the correct position, particularly beneficial for addressing subluxations.
Flexion-Distraction Technique
For cases involving herniated or bulging discs, we use the Flexion-Distraction table. This specialized table gently stretches the spine, allowing for a decompression of the lumbar discs.
- Operation: The table mechanically separates, creating space between the lumbar vertebrae. I apply targeted pressure to the affected disc while the table provides a controlled traction and flexion. This technique is highly effective in reducing nerve pressure and alleviating leg and back pain associated with disc issues.
These techniques are just a few examples of how chiropractic care can be tailored to meet the specific needs of patients suffering from low back pain. By using a combination of manual adjustments, instrument-assisted therapies, and specialized tables, we ensure comprehensive care that targets the root cause of discomfort. If you’re experiencing low back pain, consider chiropractic care for a non-invasive, effective approach to pain relief.
